An Integrated Assessment of the Cumulative Impacts of Climate Change and Industrial Development on Salmon in Western British Columbia

ABSTRACT

This proposal aims to address the Moore Foundation's goals of scientific research and environmental conservation in northwest British Columbia by funding projects under the Wild Salmon Ecosystem Initiative. With an urgent need to synthesize existing science on salmon, ecosystems, wildlife, climate change, and industrial development, the project has two main objectives: conducting a cumulative effects assessment on aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems at the watershed scale, and facilitating government/non-government collaboration on decision-making and environmental monitoring at the provincial scale. By collating existing science and data, this project aims to provide science-based information for land use management initiatives, establish a technical basis for long-term research and monitoring, and assess the impacts of development scenarios on wild salmon and ecosystem services in northwest BC.
