Understanding Columnar Growth of Western redcedar (Thuja plicata) in the Kitimat Valley

In this study, morphological, physiological and anatomical approaches were combined to better understand columnar growth of Western redcedar in the Kitimat Valley. Six sampling locations were chosen, three of them located along the aerial industrial emission corridor on the west side of the valley from Kitimat to Onion Lake, 32km NNE of the smelter. The remaining three locations were paired with the above-mentioned sites and were chosen based on their geological similarities to their pairs, but located on the east side of the valley, outside the aerial emissions corridor.
